Press Release

CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS PRINTING ERROR

Due to a printing error, most reorders and advance reorders of the CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS HARDCOVER WITH SLIPCASE (SEP98 0138) are being held back from release to allow time for the error (a misprinted page) to be corrected. A new item code has been assigned for all further activity: SEP98 8476.

Since the error was discovered too late to keep most initial orders from shipping, DC is taking the following steps to ensure that all copies are repaired, at no charge to retailers.

Retailers in the continental U.S. will receive Diamond ARS return labels on 12/9/98 for copies of CRISIS to be returned to Diamond by 12/30/98. Retailers in Canada, Alaska, Hawaii, and Puerto Rico are asked to use their normal return systems to return copies to Diamond. In both cases, DC will pay all routine freight charges on the returns and on the subsequent shipments of the repaired copies. (Copies going through Diamond UK have been intercepted in time.) Due to prohibitively high international freight costs for smaller orders, retailers in other international locations will be asked to return the indicia pages of their CRISIS copies to Diamond (and destroy the remainder of the defective copies) and will be sent corrected replacement copies as soon as they are available. Retailers may make order reductions on the CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS HARDCOVER until 12/18/98.

Retailers who were not shipped their copies will be credited on 12/9/98; retailers who were shipped their initial orders will be credited when they return their copies.

All returned copies of CRISIS will have the misprinted page removed and a corrected page "tipped-in" in its place. DC estimates that the repair and resending of all copies will take approximately ten weeks, and projects that the corrected books will be in stores by mid-February. All corrected copies will be shrink-wrapped with a coupon (headlined to identify the copy as having been corrected) that will give consumers a free copy of an exclusive poster of the wraparound cover to CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS #1.

Retailers will return the coupons to Diamond and be supplied the posters (and reimbursed for the poster-related shipping charges with credits to their account.) To help compensate for the additional work being asked of retailers, for each coupon submitted, retailers will also be given one copy of the same poster free.

DC regrets the inconvenience this process will cause. According to Bob Wayne, DC's Vice President -- Direct Sales, "Given the importance of CRISIS to DC history -- and how much effort has gone into the long-awaited collected edition -- we don't believe this book should be on anyone's shelf without being corrected." Adds CRISIS writer Marv Wolfman, "I'm extremely grateful that DC is going to these extra lengths to make the CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS hardcover as good as it can possibly be."

Further information will be announced as soon as it is available.

Make sure your Crisis is shrinkwrapped!!

Aloha
